Starting at only 600 euros, the Nguyen Dynasty mandarin’s hat is sold for 600,000 euros, 1,000 times higher than the starting price. This price is excluded taxes and fees.
The hat dates back to the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and comes with a gilded wooden hat box that is very beautiful and intact. The antique attracted 73 bids. This is a record price for a Vietnamese antique. At this price, the Nguyen Dynasty mandarin’s hat is far ahead of the remaining works and artifacts in the same auction.
In addition to the Nguyen dynasty mandarin’s hat, the auction also offered a gown with the four sacred animals (Dragon, Unicorn, Tortoise and Phoenix) images of the Nguyen Dynasty and a pair of gilded wooden blocks originating from Vietnam. The gown was sold for 35,000 euros (about 930 million VND), while the altar pair was priced at 1,750 euros (more than 46 million VND).
