Accessibility for people with disabilities to improve
Sharing the reality and solutions to ensure access for people with disabilities (PWDs) is a topic of a workshop organized by the Action to the Community Development Center (ACDC) on March 29 at Park View Hotel.
Referring to difficulties as PWDs participate in public transportation, representatives of PWDs Association said that vehicles, such as taxis, buses and coaches, are not yet suitable for the PWDs’ usage, due to narrow doors, high chassis, no handrails... Most waiting stops on routes have not been synchronously designed; there are no signs and equipments to support guidance via audio for the visually impaired and hearing impaired.
From the above reality, the workshop discussed solutions to ensure access for PWDs. In terms of transportation, reviewing the standards to build traffic hubs towards improving accessibility of PWDs; appraising new public transport vehicles to be exploited to ensure access and usage for PWDs. Concerning construction works, focusing on guiding and training skills in designing contructions which can access PWDs for architects and construction engineers; renovating and upgrading a number of public contructions to ensure accessibility for PWDs ...
This is an activity under the project “Raising voices and creating opportunities for people with disabilities” funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), via ACDC Center.
