APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting

Delegates are discussing the initiatives of the host country of Vietnam

On November 6, 20 recommendations were submitted to APEC leaders 2017 at the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meeting. There were 6 of these recommendations related to integration and 4 initiatives of Vietnam in APEC Year 2017.

20 recommendations of ABAC submitted to APEC leaders include supporting for multilateral trading system; promoting the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (FTAAP); continuing to pursue new agendas for service sector; removing non-tariff barriers; facilitating trade and investment; building APEC visions after 2020; 4 recommendations on regional connection with regard to policies, infrastructure and people; 10 recommendations on sustainable, creative and inclusive development and supporting small, medium and micro enterprises, as well as women taking part in economic activities.

Delegates from 21 APEC economies also spent most of their time discussing 4 initiatives of Vietnam on human resources in the digital age; cross-border e-commerce; promoting creative start-up; inclusive economic, financial and social development.

Besides this meeting, ABAC has also held several meetings on finance and economy; as well as regional economic integration; sustainable development, small and medium enterprises; micro enterprises & entrepreneurship; preparation of the ABAC’s report to be submitted to APEC Ministers and APEC leaders; and completing the preparation for the ABAC Dialogue with APEC leaders on November 10.

On September 27th, the APEC Policy Partnership on Women and the Economy second meeting (PPWE) in Hue City had a closing session and passed a joint statement on women and the economy after 2 days of organization. The "Guiding Principles for Gender in APEC" initiative of Vietnam was highly appreciated by the delegates.
