Developing a proposal to establish O Lau River Biodiversity Conservation Area

On February 2, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho made a survey to the area of ​​O Lau River, Phong Dien district and Cua Lac, Quang Dien district to consider the possibility of forming a “bird sanctuary” to conserve biodiversity and preserve ecological system. At the same time, legal factors, scientific and practical basis were considered to propose the establishment of O Lau River Biodiversity Conservation Area.

After the survey, the Chairman directed the concerned departments, agencies and localities to urgently identify areas for investment, conservation, habitat restoration, restoration and development of population of rare and valuable wild birds species, especially migratory birds; restoring and developing O Lau area to become a typical national "bird sanctuary".

On the same day, the provincial Chairman and the people of Ngu Dien communes planted 1,000 barringtonias in the downstream area of ​​O Lau river; visiting farmers who were caring for winter-spring rice; examining the production situation of the people in Pho Trach ‘bang’ grass (Lepironia articulata) and Moc Xuyen carpentry traditional craft villages
