Developing smart coastal communities and green traffic in Hue

TTH.VN - On the afternoon of April 25, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh chaired the working session with the delegation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to discuss the projects of smart coastal communities and green traffic in Hue City.

In the framework of the meeting, the representative of UNDP presented the project “Climate-smart coastal communities in Vietnam” and the project “Promoting electric vehicles towards the development of green traffic in Hue City”.

According to the UNDP delegation, recently, UNDP is carrying out the project “climate-smart coastal communities in Vietnam” with an aim to promote the activities of vulnerable coastal agencies and communities, giving the priority to women in coastal management for climate change adaptation, biodiversity protection and development with risk announcement.

The project also provided technical support on the innovative bottom-up solutions to empower garbage collectors, giving priority to women to enhance the resilience and social inclusion, etc.

Through the information provided in the project, localities and departments also showed their opinions and made discussions to help the project become more appropriate to the local practical situation, promoting its efficiency. 

Developing coastal mangrove forests and lagoons for climate change adaptation

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh highly appreciated the project “Climate-smart coastal communities in Vietnam”, heading towards the effective goals for local coastal communities and society, which is appropriate to the provincial topography and climate. The Vice Chairman said that UNDP needed to carefully research and survey to ensure the best results for the project, at the same time, the units, localities, and UNDP have to be proactive in collaborating, providing data, and making discussions to improve the project investment efficiency.

Regarding the project “Promoting electric vehicles towards the development of green traffic in Hue City”, the project would pilot the bicycle-sharing services in Hue City central area to improve the use of personal electric means; as well as piloting using electric vehicles with the services of collecting garbage and/or delivery of goods.

Vice Chairman Hoang Hai Minh informed that this project was appropriate with the orientations to the development and green traffic plan, as well as sustainably improving air quality offered by the province. He recommended that Hue City People’s Committee should well collaborate with UNDP and related units so that the projects could be implemented soon. This project should soon be put into testing, piloting, choosing the best and the most beneficial locations and solutions for local people and tourists when using these services.
