Honoring the coach and athlete who have made a name for Thua Thien Hue’s sports in the world arena

The Provincial People's Committee has just held a meeting with Hue’s shuttlecock kicking coach and athlete who recently won the gold medal at the 2019 World Championship.

Standing Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Council Cai Vinh Tuan and Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung crowned the coach and athlete with laurel wreaths, and gave flowers to congratulate them

The Shuttlecock Kicking International Championship 2019 commenced on August 21 in France. Wearing the Vietnamese national team colors, athlete Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh and her teammates defeated their Chinese competitors to bring home the gold medals for the 3-female competition. 

With her gold medal, Thuy Linh has recorded her name in history as the first athlete in Thua Thien Hue to win the highest title in the highest level tournament in the world.

Meanwhile, as one of the national shuttlecock kicking coaches, along with his student Nguyen Thi Thuy Linh, Head of Hue Shuttlecock Division - Nguyen Van Hien (coach) made a great contribution when leading the coaching team. Vietnam defeated China - the country that has dominated shuttlecock kicking for many years in the international arena - to win the first place with 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals.

Previously, Nguyen Van Hien and his colleagues led the Vietnamese shuttlecock kicking team to win 3 gold medals at the 2016 Asian Beach Games in Da Nang; and 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal at the 2017 shuttlecock championship in Hong Kong – China. He has also received a certificate of merit from the Prime Minister.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Mr. Nguyen Dung assessed that these achievements are the example and motivation for shuttlecock kicking in particular and Hue sports in general to continue with the efforts in training and competition to win many high prizes in regional, continental and international competitions in the following years.
