Flexible and efficient

Observing the online classes of some lecturers at the University of Education, Hue University, the most impressive thing is that the teaching method is quite flexible, and the teacher-student interaction is quite good. Not only theoretical lectures, but many illustrative examples and simulations are also lectured online to students.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Phuong, Rector of the University of Education, Hue University, said that there are no more initial surprises when the faculty and staff are well organizing teaching-learning activities and supporting teachers at other high schools in their online teaching activities. The digital university model has gradually asserted its position, which helps to form a habit of teaching, working, and meeting online in most of the university’s activities.

To adapt to the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, solution changes in teaching, scientific research, international cooperation, etc., have been skillfully and effectively applied by the majority of faculty and staff at not only the University of Education, but other training units of Hue University as well. Considering only the data published internationally by Hue University, by November 9th, there were 753 articles published in prestigious international journals in the list of Scopus/WoS.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Van, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Sciences & Veterinary Medicine, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University, in the context of the pandemic, the teaching and researching faculty must find ways to adapt to and take advantage of technological connections to exchange information among experts. All solutions and methods are considered to ensure not only research efficiency but also safety in pandemic prevention and control. The good thing is that everyone is doing well.

In his speeches, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Linh, President of Hue University, affirmed that the role of the faculty and staff is very important, contributing to the implementation of strategic tasks and the affirmation of the position of Hue University. Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the faculty and staff have quickly made timely adaptations to the new normal situation: online meetings, online teaching, online enrollment, online graduation, speeding up the digital transformation process, constantly innovating teaching methods, improving training quality, etc.

Focusing on developing the faculty and staff

By the beginning of August 2021, Hue University has 1,939 lecturers, in which 19 are professors, 196 are associate professors, and 717 are doctors, etc. Regarding professional titles, there are 215 superior lecturers, 411 senior lecturers, and 1,313 lecturers. When compared to the same period of 2016, the percentage of lecturers with postgraduate qualifications increased by 19%, of which the doctorate increased by nearly 10%.

Hue University is striving to develop into a National University in the spirit of Resolution No. 54 of the Politburo. According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Council of Hue University, the faculty and staff play a decisive role in implementing and performing all tasks, especially teaching and creating scientific and technological products, research works and international articles, etc.

In fact, by the beginning of 2021, Hue University's doctorate-lecturer ratio reached nearly 31%. Compared to the national average (approximately 27%), the above rate is slightly higher, but has not yet been commensurate with a regional university that is "rising" to become a National University. Therefore, Hue University is striving to achieve the doctorate rate of over 50% by the year 2025.

According to Assoc. Prof. Huynh Van Chuong, the Council of Hue University has recently promulgated the development strategy of Hue University in the period of 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2045, in which the specific goal in the 2021 - 2026 period is to stabilize the scale with the number of 4,100 officials and employees, of which there are 2,300 lecturers and 600 researchers (71.95%), 1,450 officials with doctoral degrees (50%), 400 officials are recognized to meet professional standards title of professor and associate professor (17.4%); 70% of lecturers and researchers can teach, research, present at seminars, and have direct academic exchanges in foreign languages.

To do that, Hue University will develop and finalize regulations on recruiting, planning, fostering, evaluating, appointing, and seconding officials, ensuring objectivity, accuracy, and strictness so that people with good moral qualities and development potential suitable for the job position can be selected to bring into full play the creative capacity and professionalism to meet the human resource needs of the member units and Hue University.

Hue University will also plan to develop its faculty and staff based on the job position needs of each unit and Hue University by 2030 to ensure continuity and succession; assign annual targets of doctorates, professors and associate professors to its member and affiliated units.

To attract talents and retain good faculty and staff, Hue University will develop a favorable teaching and researching environment for lecturers and researchers; formulating and implementing the remuneration policy for highly qualified faculty and staff of Hue University; creating programs to foster and train young talents and researchers based on worthy remuneration.

Meanwhile, in the near future, it will promote training and fostering lecturers and researchers in various forms, focusing on sending officials and workers abroad to study and improve professional qualifications, foreign languages, pedagogical skills, and so on.
