Making bait to catch cuttlefish - keeping love with sea
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung used to go to sea since he was 13 years old but then, due to his illness, he could not stick to the career. Instead, Mr. Dung has made bait to catch cuttlefish to keep his love with the sea.
In a small hamlet in Cu Lai Trung village, Phu Hai commune, Phu Vang district, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Dung (56 years old) is still making bait for fishermen in the area everyday as well as serving the stalls selling marine materials.
12 years ago, unfortunately, he got sick and he could not go out to sea. Missing the sea as well as the career, he began to focus on making squid bait, which is made of wood and lead with shrimp-shape.
The main material to shape the basic shrimp form is wood, with a groove on its body to pour lead into, creating a certain weight.
Simple tool to make shrimp-shape baits
The indispensable material is lead. Mr. Dung buys pure lead, then he burns it in an aluminum pot until the lead melts
