Restoring steam locomotives on the route Hue - Da Nang for tourism
The Railway Bureau has just requested the Ministry of Transport to consider the investment scale and approve the policy that allows the connection of auxiliary works to operate the steam locomotives on the Hue – Da Nang railway infrastructure.
The total capital of this project is over 81 billion VND, and it is invested by Indochina Rail Tourist Service Co., Ltd. The project explores two couples of trains on the route Hue – Lang Co – Kim Lien (Da Nang), in which there are one steam locomotive, one VIP car; two carriages; one car for sightseeing and restaurant and one for generator and kitchen.
The investor buys three old MIKADO steam locomotives with the axle load of 10.5 tones which have stopped working since 1990 to restore; and now they have been certificated by the Register. The investment expense for equipment and facilities accounted for over 46 billion VND.
Furthermore, the project also renovates the existing railway infrastructure, provides equipment to serve the steam locomotive and builds the internal road for coal and water supply for the locomotives, etc., at Hue, Lang Co and Kim Lien stations; the total investment capital for these categories is over 21 billion VND.
