The image of the tiger in Hue cultural life
Tigers or leopards, panthers, etc., are ferocious land animals that can also climb trees and swim in rivers and streams. The ancient people feared and worshiped the tiger as "the lord of the jungle", "ong ba muoi”, the tiger god. Of the 12 zodiac animals, the Tiger ranks third in the land animal category.
The image of the tiger is present in many monuments through the form of a tiger-faced design, double dragons flanking the tiger design on roof sculptures, and double dragons flanking the tiger carrying a wine gourd design on roof sculptures… The image of a tiger is seen most often in Hue folk paintings, through various forms such as hand-paintings and woodblock prints, especially Sinh village paintings…
The image of the tiger has long been closely associated with the lives of Hue people from the royal palace to folklore; from culture to spiritual life...
