Visiting the historical - cultural relic site of Nguyen Tri Phuong’s temple and tomb

TTH.VN - The relic site of Nguyen Tri Phuong and the prince consort Nguyen Lam’s tombs is located in Dai Phu Village, Phong Chuong Commune (Phong Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province). From the center of Hue City, visitors can go along Highway 1A northward 30km to Phong Dien Town, Phong Dien District, Thua Thien Hue Province; and then turn right along the Provincial Road 6 about 15km.

Nguyen Tri Phuong (1800-1873) was a famous Vietnamese mandarin in the Nguyen Dynasty. He was the commander-in-chief of the Nguyen Dynasty's army against the French invaders.

After his death, in the summer in the eighteenth year of Emperor Tu Duc’s reign, the Emperor had ordered to establish Trung Hieu Tu temple in Nguyen Tri Phuong’s hometown. His tomb and the tomb of the prince consort Nguyen Lam were built by their family in around 1874.

In 1990, the historical - cultural relic site of Nguyen Tri Phuong’s temple and tomb, along with the prince consort Nguyen Lam’s tomb and the tomb of Nguyen Duy (Nguyen Tri Phuong’s younger brother) were recognized as a national-level historical cultural relic site by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

When visiting this relic site, visitors will have a chance to admire the space of the temple and the tomb, which are imbued with Vietnamese village culture, and see with their own eyes the bronze statue of Nguyen Tri Phuong, which was made by the authority and locals with the aim to express their gratitude to Nguyen Tri Phuong for his contribution to the country.
