Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital and colleagues in a multidisciplinary consultation for the treatment of COVID-19 cases.
Saving people with the heart and skills
In the middle of May, at a time when the COVID-19 epidemic was still very complicated, the story of a poor patient who was successfully saved by Hue Central Hospital with high technology, and hospital fee up to 700 million dong, which was covered, was completely heartwarming.
The lucky patient who was "revived" was Mr. Truong H. (42 years old, Nam Phuoc village, Loc Thuy commune, Phu Loc district). With septic shock with severe pneumonia and respiratory failure, the risk of death was very high if he was not timely intervened by ECMO - Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygen exchange and CRRT - Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy.
These are complex, highly effective techniques, but the treatment costs are also very high, as underprivileged patients cannot afford them. Facing this situation, the Director of Hue Central Hospital directed to operate the emergency treatment immediately to save the patient's life.
After nearly 20 days of intensive treatment with the support of ECMO and CRRT, the patient was successfully extubated. On the day of discharge, patient H. emotionally expressed his gratitude to the Hospital's Board of Directors and the doctors and nurses who directly took care of him.
His happiness was multiplied when the entire cost of treatment beside the payment of health insurance, the remaining, with more than 700 million VND, was supported by the hospital with the Fund for underprivileged patients.
At Hue Central Hospital, patient H. has been the latest case of a serious illness, under difficult circumstances, that was fortunately saved by the doctors and nurses wholeheartedly and also with the hospital covered fees.
Previously, in April 2021, Hue Central Hospital also successfully applied stem cell transplantation in the treatment of retinoblastoma, saving the life of child patient Ho Thi Tr., 3 years old. Baby Tr. was suffering from physical pain as she had metastatic retinoblastoma, with the thought that she could not stay alive because her parents were too poor.
But then, a miracle happened when the baby was admitted to Hue Central Hospital, and the team of well qualified doctors and nurses successfully cured the disease. The hospital also called for all resources and benefactors to support baby Tr. with the total cost of treatment approximately 400 million VND.
Successfully treated many severe cases
Hue Central Hospital, a high-class hospital of the Ministry of Health, is one of the leading units in the country in terms of the number of technical services applied in medical examination and treatment of all specialties.
Every year, hundreds of new techniques are updated and implemented, the successful treatment of difficult cases always reaches a high rate in the whole country. Especially in recent years, the hospital has continuously made many breakthroughs in the fields of high-tech and intensive treatment, such as: organ transplantation, laparoscopic surgery, cancer treatment, cardiology, assisted reproductive technology...
The province has set a goal of turning Hue Central Hospital into a "high-class medical center, a center for training high-quality medical staff with international brand". As a high-class medical facility in the area, Hue Central Hospital has implemented many solutions on developing well-qualified medical staff; new treatment techniques equivalent to countries in the region and worldwide; improving services; strengthening international cooperation... In the meantime, good coordination creates a solid background and network between Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University and the Department of Health in training, scientific research, and directing.
In the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, Hue Central Hospital clearly demonstrates the pivotal role of the central unit in isolating and treating COVID-19 patients during the pandemic. The hospital "shared the heat" with Da Nang during the time that the neighbor city was fighting the second outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Responding to this fourth epidemic outbreak in Vietnam, Hue Central Hospital has urgently reviewed, supplemented and completed the plan to cope with all levels of the COVID-19 pandemic, performing the dual task of providing medical treatment and ensuring absolute safety against the pandemic.
