Dr. Nguyen Cong Hao, Head of the Department of Student Affairs and Training, Hue University
Dr. Nguyen Cong Hao said that the Ministry of Education and Training had planned to adjust the technical contents to ensure objectivity and fairness among candidates, fairness between training institutions and students, and to create a consensus in society. Facing the changes, Hue University has also made plans to accompany, advise, and orient candidates.
What are the changes in admissions this year, sir?
At the national university and college admissions conference in 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training proposed 6 contents that are expected to be adjusted in this year's admissions season compared to 2021.
First, the registration for the high school graduation exam and college and university entrance exams must be done on the ministry's portal or the National Public Service Portal.
Second, for candidates registering for the first round of admission: All applicants (according to training majors, training mode, and training institutions) can apply for admission online after completing the high school graduation exam, the choices are ranked from 1 to the end (number 1 is the top choice).
This is a special point to note because in previous years, candidates often registered for admissions before the exam. Subsequently, there was a period of change in admission choices when the results were reported. With this adjustment, candidates will no longer have the chance to adjust their choices.
Third, all the candidates' choices for admission to the training institutions are generally filtered by the system, and candidates are admitted to the institution listed as their first choice when meeting the conditions of the said training institution.
Fourth, for majors that use multiple admission methods and combinations of subjects at the same time, schools must clarify the suitability of this choice, ensuring fairness for candidates. If each method (or each combination of exam subjects) has its own criteria, the admission schemes of the schools must warrant appropriate grounds for the allocation of criteria for each method (or combination of exam subjects).
Fifth, learning results (grades 10, 11, and 12) are updated on the database. Simultaneously, the data is checked and reviewed after it is synchronized to the exam and admissions management system. And finally, the training institution analyzes the risks during the admissions process and has a plan of action, and coordinates between the training institutions during the admissions process.
The aforementioned changes require that educational institutions and candidates need to pay attention and study carefully. Candidates need to follow the instructions to ensure the correct application for admission, following their wishes and abilities. On the part of higher education institutions, they must also rely on the guidelines from the ministry to advise and guide candidates specifically, and make appropriate adjustments to the admissions plan.
With Hue University, will there be any relevant adjustments?
The goals and tasks of educational institutions are not only to attract candidates but also to advise and guide them in their careers to avoid inappropriate choices that lead to dropouts after studying for a brief time.
Of the above 6 changes, the most notable are three groups of issues: the first is the change in time and method of admissions registration, the second is the use of a virtual filter system for all methods of admissions, and the third is the requirement for training institutions to analyze risks in the admissions process and have a plan of action.
For Hue University, we have also made changes to the admissions method. The first is the counseling activity. Hue University and its affiliated universities and institutions undertook 2 phases of admissions counseling - career orientation for high school students.
Phase 1 is from the period after the Lunar New Year until before the exam. This phase will focus on changes in regulations on admissions, exams, admissions, information about occupations, job opportunities, etc.
Phase 2 is from when candidates start getting their test results to when they start to register for admission. This phase will guide candidates on how to register, making their choices, etc., according to their ability. Each phase requires appropriate advice, but some information must also be repeated continually since there have been many cases of avoidable errors.
Answering questions for candidates about admissions information in 2022
Hue University will also maintain close contact with the ministry and general education institutions not only in career guidance for candidates but also in data assurance.
In the past, due to the diversity of admissions methods, the time of admissions announcement and the time of data updating were not synchronized, so it affected the virtual filtering results. This situation led to candidates being able to enroll through multiple methods, even though they only choose one method and one major to study. With this innovation, candidates will only be qualified for one choice for all methods of admissions. Hue University and its member universities will coordinate and participate in virtual filtering.
An equally important issue is that training organizations must analyze risks in the admissions process and have a solution. In reality, some majors with an admission rate close to the target can still meet the target. However, there are majors with announced intakes of 5-6 times more than the target but still do not recruit enough students. The risk in admissions is not small.
This year, we will rely on the information of each major in the past 3-4 years to do the interpolation test and calculate the admission rate, admission confirmation rate, enrollment rate, and rate of dropouts after 1 year to give consistent benchmark results.
As for the admissions project, what new changes has Hue University made, sir?
This year, we have about 14,500 admission places for about 140 majors and 146 training programs. Recently, we have announced the draft of the university admissions project for 2022.
This year, Hue University applies 5 admission methods, including: Admission based on academic results at the high school level (school transcripts); Admission based on the results of the high school graduation exam (high school graduation exam scores) in 2022; Admission based on the high school graduation exam scores in 2022 or based on the academic records combined with the results of the aptitude exam (for gifted majors); Direct admission and prioritization per current admissions regulations; Recruitment according to the specific method of the training units in Hue University.
The target structure among the methods is calculated appropriately, ensuring fairness for the candidates.
The epidemic situation has changed, what solutions does Hue University have to adapt to it and support candidates?
Recruitment and career counseling is very important. Currently, Hue University and the member universities are focusing on implementation.
This year, we still take advantage of the technology platform to live stream admissions counseling; and take advantage of all channels from email, Facebook, phone, and website... to support candidates 24/24 hours. We also carry out decentralization and communication between the counseling departments of Hue University, universities, faculties…
The demand for career guidance from high school students is huge. The epidemic situation has had positive changes, and currently, some training units have also cooperated with the Departments of Education and Training, with high schools in many provinces and cities to directly counsel, guide and support candidates. In addition, this year, many schools also opened many Open Days to bring to students the opportunity to experience the learning and research environment.
Thank you for sharing Sir!
