The strong development of technology has been changing the habit of accessing information sources of many people, especially young people. Among them, podcast - a transmission of information in the form of audio, is becoming an emerging technology trend in the lives of the young generation.

In fact, podcasts have shown a booming growth in recent years. In 2021, about a quarter of adults (60 million people) in the US statistically listen to podcasts several times a week. About 91 million Americans listen to at least one podcast a week... The trend of using this platform is also becoming more and more popular in Vietnam and is widely shared by young people.

Potential topics on podcasts are very diverse, ranging from news, music, movies, books, technology, sports to even thoughts, opinions... All can be discussed on the world of podcasts.

Having just learned about podcasts in the last three months, Le Minh Hien - a 16-years-old girl from Huong Long ward, has a habit of spending 15 minutes to 1 hour a day listening to podcasts. She makes her new day more meaningful by having breakfast while listening to interesting stories on podcasts.

In addition, cleaning the house for Hien is no longer boring as she can do it while listening to her favorite categories. She even learns English during cleaning the house and washing dishes by listening to English podcasts.

Similar to Minh Hien, Vo Huong Giang – a 18-years-old girl from Tay Loc ward, is also “predestined” with many attractive podcast channels for learning and entertainment purposes. “I used to get stressed from my study pressure. At such times, I listened to podcasts sharing about how to regain my spirit. Listening to small funny stories in everyday life also helps me feel better,” said Giang.

As for Pham Xuan Giang – a 26-year-old resident of An Tay ward, although he has just started learning and listening to podcasts not long ago, he also has a favorite choice of daily channel. Compared to other forms of accessing information, he finds listening to podcasts as a way for his learning and sharing process.

“The stories in different podcast channels have their own genres, without any exasperation or duplication. I sometimes feel empathy when listening to podcasts because I find a part of myself in them. The closeness from inspirational stories is what attracts listeners the most,” continued Giang.

A platform for sharing stories

Tran Minh Trang from Phuoc Vinh ward accessed to podcast channels from the age of 19. The inspiration behind podcast interesting stories that Minh Trang listened to during her free time and the love of storytelling have motivated her to build her own podcast channel.

Minh Trang revealed that she had a habit of writing a diary every day. Recording daily stories helps her learn many good things, from which she shares to her videos, with a wish to bring positive stories to everyone.

“Developing my channel on the YouTube platform is a way for me to share stories, lessons, and personal views on issues surrounding student’s life, such as recommended books, how to refresh yourself, or personal experience trips. In spite of the unfamiliarity of my channel to many people, I try to make more efforts for personal improvement and to invest for a more unique content every time I receive likes or encouraging comments from listeners,” confided Minh Trang.

It can be said that for young people, the podcast is a “fertile ground” for expressing their creativity. Although the material of the content often comes from everyday stories, it is enough for young people to show their own interesting perspectives on their surrounding life. It also helps the youth train their thinking and express their own personality.
