On the evening of April 28th, at the Quoc Hoc Hue Stele Stage, the opening ceremony of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 took place, featuring the theme "The Hands of the Artisans," kicking off a week of exciting and unique festivities.

Attending the event were representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, including Deputy Minister Hoang Dao Cuong, and provincial leaders, including Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Phan Ngoc Tho, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Van Phuong.
The artistic program of the opening night consisted of unique performances designed and staged according to a continuous story called "The Hands of the Artisans."
The connecting thread of the story was music, lighting and choreography, which were newly composed based on the unique sounds of Hue music, but with modern and fresh rhythms.
Famous and popular artists, such as the rock band The Wall (Buc Tuong), singers Dong Hung and Bao Tram, and guest star Bobby Kim from Korea, participated in the program.
The new and different highlight of the opening night was the traditional craft flame with the lotus flower design, crafted using the traditional Phap Lam art form, which represented the unique cultural significance of Hue Imperial City. The flame was lit by previous generations of artisans, passing down the spirit of traditional craft to the next generation.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Vo Le Nhat, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hue City and Head of the Organizing Committee of the Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023, said that the festival with the theme "The Quintessence of Vietnamese Craftmanship" would take place from April 28 to May 5, 2023. This is a series of events highlighting Hue Festival 2023, organized according to the four-season orientation; it is a culturally and socio-economically significant festival on national level and with international elements, contributing to enhancing the position of Hue as "The Green Ancient Capital City - World Heritage - Safe and Friendly City".
The Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 is a place to honor the beauty and showcase the traditional handicrafts, bringing together talented artisans and researching contemporary innovative methods. It is held in the characteristic landscape and culture of Hue City. This festival is also a gathering space for generations of craftsmen, artists, researchers, organizations, individuals from both domestic and international communities to participate in preserving and promoting the values of traditional crafts. Along with a series of unique cultural and artistic events, the lively and colorful festival atmosphere will contribute to promoting commercial and tourism activities, economic and socio-cultural development in the region, and continue to affirm the brand name: Hue - the specific festival city of Vietnam.
