A lot of distinctive programs
The Hue Festival 2023 Organizing Committee recently released the main programs and a list of events for the Autumn and Winter Festivals. Tourists have numerous possibilities to immerse themselves in Hue Festival from now until the end of the year, with 12 main programs and activities for the Autumn Festival and 8 for the Winter Festival.
According to Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and Head of Hue Festival Organizing Committee, Hue Festival 2023 is aligned with the orientation of Four-Season Festival, with the goal of organizing a series of celebratory activities throughout the year. This aims to promote Hue's and Vietnam’s distinctive cultural qualities, exploiting the strengths of historical places, varied festival forms, spiritual tourism, and attracting visitors.
Hue Festival 2023 is carefully and professionally organized, with local authorities creating a welcoming environment for participation from communities, citizens, and businesses. The activities are designed in the direction of socialization, in line with the Hue Festival brand, while adapting to the trends of social development.
The 12 main programs and activities of the Autumn Festival are all captivating and imbued with cultural identity, including: the International Fine Arts Exhibition, which features artists from all over the world; the Quan The Am’s Celebration of Enlightenment; the Ao Dai Festival; the exhibition of Royal Treasures from Emperor Khai Dinh’s reign, the 100-year journey from Musée Khai Dinh to Hue Royal Antiquities Museum, the Hue Nam Temple Festival; the Traditional Boat Racing Festival on the Perfume River; the Hue Matsuri 2023 program; the Manga Palace (Japanese manga exhibition); the International Photography Festival; the Hue Unicorn Dance Festival; the Unicorn-Lion-Dragon street performance; and the “Tuong Hue (Classical Vietnamese Opera) program - Echoes of Ancient Times”.
The Winter Festival program includes the "Green Notes" musical instrument performance festival, the Hue Wellness Tourism Week; a heritage-themed drawing contest; the art program “Stories of Hue's Winter”; the International Music Festival; the "Golden Nightingale" singing competition; the Festival of Art clubs in Thua Thien Hue province combining Ao Dai performances; and the Countdown program, which concludes the Hue Festival 2023 series of events.
The Organizing Committee of Hue Festival 2023 announced that the autumn atmosphere will be highlighted by the International Lantern Festival. Units within the province, as well as those from partner provinces such as Hoi An, Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi, along with lantern-making units from South Korea, China, and Japan, will participate. The Lantern Festival 2023 will spend a space for setups and displays of lanterns and products from local production facilities and craft villages in Thua Thien Hue, as well as another space for lantern setups and displays from the participating countries. Residents and visitors can witness performances, experience lantern-making, and engage with traditional folk toys.
In addition, there will be a Royal Mid-Autumn Night, which is expected to include the decoration of 1,000 lanterns in the Imperial Citadel; Ceremony of offerings mooncakes at the Imperial Citadel's palaces; and artistic performances of “Lantern procession, Lantern dance, Unicorn dance, and Royal music.” There will also be a “Traditional Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Night" space, as well as community and responding activities, and an “Lantern and Unicorn making craftsmanship in Hue" Exhibition.
During the winter season, the eagerly awaited International Music Festival themed “THE SOUND OF NATURE” will take place. The program will encompass activities such as: the opening ceremony and international music performances by participating groups during the music week, the group exchanges and introduction of contemporary music genres; the exchanges and introduction of national famous singers and groups of contemporary music artists; the light festival organized by the Embassy of the French Republic in the grandiose setting of Hue Citadel.

Unique Ao Dai art performances
One of the highlights of the Autumn-Winter Festival is the “Hue Ao Dai Festival 2023” with the theme “Tales from the river”. This aims to innovate, improve artistic quality, and gradually transform the Hue Ao Dai Festival into a distinctive artistic program of the Capital of Ao Dai. It will regularly serve both tourists and the people of Hue.
Going beyond a mere Ao Dai fashion show, the Hue Ao Dai Festival 2023 is a unique and novel Ao Dai art performance ever. It combines fashion, singing, dancing, and music, bringing together renowned Ao Dai designers from across the country. The showcased Ao Dai collections are intricately linked to the stories of the Perfume River – the legendary river of history, culture, music, poetry, and painting.
The Hue Ao Dai Festival 2023 consists of three chapters. The overarching narrative revolves around the Perfume River: dreamy nature, romantic moonlit water, peaceful urban streets, gentle elegance, nostalgic tunes, and Hue - A place of thousands of poems... The stories telling of the river serves as inspiration and material for designers to craft Ao Dai with patterns, colors, flora, and the imprints of time. It becomes an epic about a river, an ancient town, and a modern city interwoven with Ao Dai through a journey of years of a city, splendor, valor and heroic.
According to the Organizing Committee of Hue Festival 2023, around 12-15 designers will participate in the program. Designers won't adhere to forming specialized collections based on a single theme but can contribute Ao Dai ensembles in alignment with the stories. Each Ao Dai is a work associated with the content of the story.
