Many FDI enterprises have chosen Phu Bai Industrial Park for production and business |
Being stick to the industrial environment
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ngoc, from Phu Ho commune, Phu Vang district, has returned from a stable engineering job in Ho Chi Minh City to work at the Huda Brewery Factory in Phu Bai Industrial Park since 2014. According to Mr. Ngoc, after more than 12 years with this factory, he is highly trusted by his leaders and colleagues. Besides, he enthusiastically works with the spirit of not being afraid of difficulties and progress, so he has a fairly stable income and builds a happy family life. For him, Hue Brewery Factory in particular, and Phu Bai Industrial Park in general are now like his second home.
Similarly, Mr. Vo Hung Thanh, from Phong Chuong commune, Phong Dien district, after many years of struggling with life in other cities, returned to his hometown and applied for a job as a worker at Scavi Hue Company in Phong Dien Industrial Park in 2006. Since then, he has been working there. Besides, he's content with working at Scavi Company as he has a stable job, met his wife, and built a happy life.
"Generally, working at factories in industrial zones is enough to make a living and raise children. For me, that is enough satisfaction", confided Mr. Thanh.
Many workers I have met in Phu Da Industrial Park or Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone also shared the same sentiment. They said that thanks to the local EZs and IZs, they had the opportunity to change their life. Currently, for these workers, in addition to having skills and improved expertise, their income is also higher than before and what is more special is they don't have to leave their motherland anymore.
According to Mr. Dang Huu Phuc, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs (DoLISA), IZs and EZs play a crucial role in employment, including for ethnic minorities. Previously, local laborers often sought work in the southern or northern cities, but now many of them remained to work in nearby IZs.
Annually, DoLISA’s vocational training centers supply thousands of workers to local IZs and EZs. Not only vocational training, many workers are equipped with skills and industrial style, thereby helping them change the habits of workers originally being from farmers and freelance workers to adapt to a professional working environment.
Economic development momentum
Thua Thien Hue has attracted nearly 170 projects to its two EZs and six IZs, with 55 projects currently under construction, totaling registered investment capital of 112,790 billion VND. This includes 44 FDI projects with a registered capital of 71,701 billion VND.
Recently, despite the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the production and business activities of enterprises have generally recovered and grown steadily over the years, exceeding planned targets. In 2023, revenue from these zones was estimated at 35,000 billion VND, with exports reaching 900 million USD, and imports at 590 million USD, contributing 3,500 billion VND to the budget, and creating nearly 50,000 jobs. These results underscore the pivotal role of IZs and EZs in the province’s stable economic growth.
Mr. Le Van Tue, Director of the Provincial Management Board of the Industrial Economic Zone, highlighted the zones' role in shifting the economic structure from agriculture to industry and services, specifically, increasing employment for unskilled labor.
“Recently, with the promotion of strategic solutions on administrative reform and focused investment promotion, the investment environment has also changed clearly. From there, the province can promote and improve the efficiency of attracting investment into EZs and IZs within the local area", shared Mr. Tue.
Mr. Nguyen Van Phuong, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee reaffirmed the province's commitment to a clean, green, and beautiful Hue. Therefore, the province always focuses on reviewing adjusting, and focusing on investing in the synchronous development of clean and beautiful EZs and IZs infrastructure. Attracting production and business projects in EZs and IZs is also strictly evaluated, with priority given to industries such as the light industry, clean industry, electronics, healthcare, and information technology, etc. Besides, collecting investment projects in seaport infrastructure, logistics, industrial production, etc., with strategic investors with sufficient capacity and experience, aiming to elevate Thua Thien Hue as a central economic and cultural hub in the region and the country.
Recently, the Prime Minister approved the Thua Thien Hue provincial planning for 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. Accordingly, the planning orientation focuses on the development of economic zones and industrial parks to promote the process of restructuring and innovating the growth model, aiming to the industrialization of the country in a modern direction.
