According to the Thua Thien Hue Gazetteer - History Section (Social Sciences Publishing House - 2005), on the night of August 22nd, 1945, under the pressure of the uprising, Bao Dai, the last emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, declared, "I hand over the leadership of the country to the Viet Minh" ...; and on September 2nd, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, founding the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. From that day, the people of Thua Thien Hue truly became the masters of their lives and their homeland.

As we proudly celebrate the 79th Independence Day of our nation, Thua Thien Hue Weekly is honored to present to our readers a collection of photos by Ms. Tuyet Mai, capturing everyday moments of the people of Hue during the recent holiday - a place where, 79 years ago, the last emperor of the feudal system in Vietnam abdicated, "handing over the leadership of the country to the Viet Minh," so we can be even more proud of our glorious nation and our great leader, out great Uncle Ho.
