Vice Chairman Hoang Hai Minh and relevant units inspected the coastal erosion in Phu Thuan Commune

As of the morning of October 22, the actual inspection revealed that approximately 150 meters of coastline from the edge of the embankment in Tan An Hamlet, Phu Thuan Commune, towards Thuan An Ward (Hue City) had eroded. The sea had encroached upon the inland by about 50 meters, nearly reaching the pedestrian route of the beach.

The coastline has suffered extremely severe erosion, with the sea has encroached on the inland approximately 100 meters. This has damaged the sidewalk of the internal beach pedestrian path, and the roots of the casuarina trees on the sidewalk are at risk of falling over.

Facing this reality, Vice Chairman Hoang Hai Minh assessed that if urgent measures are not taken, and with the current unfavorable weather conditions, this area is at risk of being eroded and swept away, including the internal beach path, significantly impacting the restaurants along the coast.

In the immediate future, local authorities were recommended to mobilize forces and means on the afternoon of October 22 to focus on implementing plans to reinforce and prevent further encroachment. This is to protect infrastructure and ensure the safety of residents living in this area.

Over the next 2 days, the handling of erosion points with a length of approximately 300 meters will be focused on. After that, there will be assessments as well as a comprehensive plan to ensure the safety and prevent future erosion in this area.

The People's Committee of Phu Thuan Commune reported that heavy rain and large waves in recent days had caused further erosion along the coastline in the commune, encroaching deep into the mainland. Severe erosion has occurred at locations where no embankment has been constructed to prevent erosion.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Dan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Thuan Commune, said that for many years, thanks to various sources of funding, Phu Thuan Commune has invested in constructing more than 2.47 kilometers of embankment, and 0.55 kilometers of underground embankment, with a total cost of about 400 billion VND. However, the remaining 1.9 kilometers, which has not been invested in, continues to be eroded during the rainy and stormy seasons.
