Reporting on the implementation of solid waste project in Thua Thien Hue province funded by JICA from 2014 to 2018, Deputy director of the Department of Construction Nguyen Dai Vien said the project gains its objectives in general.  It is worth noting that there has been a pilot implementation of solid waste sorting at source to produce organic fertilizer and the study of waste treatment by burning and burying to reduce environmental pollution. However, the volume of solid waste in urban areas accounts for 60-70% of the total solid waste, so the province expects JICA will continue to support in managing and treating the waste, particularly in technical assistance to sort waste at source in the urban area and to treat waste at two major landfill sites of the province.

Mr. Amano Shiro, Senior advisor of JICA in Japan, said that in the components of the solid waste management project in Thua Thien Hue province, JICA is very interested in waste sorting at source and organic fertilizer production in the community. On the basis of the provincial proposals, JICA will study to have a follow-up program and action plan after the solid waste management project in Thua Thien Hue province ends in 2018.

Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho highly appreciated JICA's active support for the solid waste management project in Thua Thien Hue province in recent years. At the same time, he would like JICA to continue to pay attention and support in terms of technology, solid waste treatment technique as well as resources to help the province effectively implement the Solid waste management plan in Thua Thien Hue province to 2030, with a vision to 2050.
