The Prime Minister visits the model of tourism development in Laguna

Persistent with the goal of sustainable and green growth

In the appraisal of two years implementing the five-year plan (2016-2020), Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Van Cao stated: With its unique characteristics, Thua Thien Hue province is determined to invest in the development of “a heritage, cultural, ecological, landscaping and environmentally friendly city” in order to promote the advantages of culture, history and tourism, persistent in green and sustainable growth. In particular, the aims are to develop tourism as a key economic sector to create a breakthrough in economic development, to develop environmentally friendly industries to generate state budget revenues, and to develop high-tech agriculture, organic agriculture, clean agriculture for tourism and improving the health of the people.

To accomplish this, in addition to its existing missions, the province will focus on three strategic breakthroughs. They are: focusing on developing tourism and services into the key economic sector, striving to contribute 25-30% of total state budget revenues; mobilizing resources for investment in synchronous infrastructure; and further improving the investment environment associated with enhancing the renovation of investment promotion.

Thua Thien Hue has proposed to the Prime Minister, and the ministries and departments nine contents. They are: increasing investment capital to USD 2 billion and investing in casino business for Laguna Lang Co project; additionally planning two coastal golf courses; planning Bach Ma National Park, including the proposal of restoring 139 villas on Bach Ma mountain peak, building a tourist service area outside the administrative zone, and proposing plans for using cable cars; planning the development of power grids; upgrading and expanding Phu Bai International Airport; renewing Loan Agreement for Water Environment Improvement Project in Hue City; developing education; investing in the Central Institute of Biotechnology project; implementing relocation of households in Hue relics area I.

A need for a powerful breakthrough

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc acknowledged the great efforts in many aspects of Thua Thien Hue. They have been reflected in the socio-economic shift in the direction of progress in service - industry - agriculture.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc stressed that in 2018 Thua Thien Hue should closely follow Resolution 6 of the Party Central Committee and Resolution 01 of the Government to mobilize resources for development. The province needs to discuss in order to have specific mechanisms and policies in development, while promoting the spirit of “dare to think, dare to act”, focusing on environmental protection, to build Hue into a wonderful environment for living and a place worth living.

The Prime Minister requested the province to continue to have strong solutions in terms of tourism and services, in order to encourage visitors to stay longer in Hue. To do this, attention should be paid to the quality of tourism, the development of many types of businesses and the promotion of traditional trades for tourism. Along with that, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to preserve cultural heritage. Good planning and management are crucial to bring into play comparative advantages for development, and at the same time not to raise conflict between development and preservation of cultural heritage.

The Prime Minister agreed in principle with regard to provincial proposals for investment attraction, and production and business expansion for some large projects in the province. At the same time, the Prime Minister stressed that the attraction of development investment must be consistent with the development objectives of the province and serve well for tourism and services development. The Prime Minister assigned the ministries and departments to consider and advise the Government on some feasible investment projects which can promptly contribute to the socio-economic development of the province, especially the expansion of Phu Bai International Airport and investment resources for the development of Hue University.

In regard to the assistance for relocation, compensation, land clearance and resettlement of more than 3,000 households within area I of the protection zone of the Hue Citadel area, the Prime Minister requested that the Provincial People's Committee propose a special mechanism, and report to the Government on this matter.
