An Australian expert introduced a litter trap model that has been applied in some countries worldwide
Funded by the United States Agency for Development Cooperation (USAID), CSRD has implemented the project “Municipal Waste Recycling Program to Reduce Plastics Pollution of the Oceans” since August 2018 at some schools in Hue city and Huong Tra District.
The project aims to reduce 5% of solid waste discharged into the environment by sorting waste at school, promoting the 3Rs model and organizing communication activities to raise people’s awareness.
After 6 months of implementing waste sorting, students from 6 schools, including Quoc Hoc, Bui Thi Xuan, Phan Sao Nam, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Tran Cao Van (in Hue City) and Hoang Kim Han (in Hai Duong commune, Huong Tra District) have collected more than 1,632 kg of recycling waste such as papers, plastic bottles, metals, etc. In addition, the project partners have involved in activities of cleaning up beaches, collecting and recycling plastic waste.

Under the Australian expert’s guidance on the litter trap model, CSRD conducted a field survey and recommended 6 appropriate positions for the litter traps on Huong river in order to collect floating waste, especially plastic waste. These six positions included Bao Vinh confluence, Phu My bridge, Chi Lang - Trinh Cong Son streets, Nguyen Sinh Cung street, Phu Luu bridge (Hen islet), and An Cuu river (the section along Hai Trieu street).
