As a component of the “Municipal Waste Recycling Program to Reduce Plastics Pollution of the Oceans” project, the Beach Cleanup campaign was carried out by the Centre for Social Research and Development (CSRD) and the People’s Committee of Hai Duong commune on the morning of April 7th.
The campaign attracts 270 participants
A total of 270 participants from schools, universities, staff of commune to provincial government agencies, and Thai Duong Ha Bac villagers joined in the campaign.
As for Ms. Pham Thi Dieu My, CSRD’s Director, plastic waste pollution in oceans was a huge problem of the globe today. It required joint hands and actions of the global community, of states and of localities. The littering has created many threats to the marine system along Thua Thien Hue province, which made the global environmental problems more severe.
According to statistics, Thua Thien Hue province daily discharged nearly 20 tons of plastic waste. Some of which was discharged into the Huong River and flowed directly to the sea. The implementation of this campaign aiming at reducing and recycling plastic waste in and around Hue City, is an important component of the “Municipal Waste Recycling Program to Reduce Plastics Pollution of the Oceans” project.
The result of the campaign
Campaign participants cleaned up the community beach area of Thai Duong Ha Bac village (Hai Duong commune, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) with a total length of the cleaning area of 1km.
In parallel with the litter collection activities, participants sorted disposals and spread out information to persuade local people not to litter and protect the environment.
