Doctors of two universities operating for children with cleft lip – cleft palate

Specialist Doctor Tran Tan Tai, Head of Odonto – Maxillo – Facial Department, Hospital of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy said that among 55 patients who were screened, the surgical team chose 30 patients suitable for free surgery, including 10 cases of cheiloplasty, 7 cases of palate reconstruction, 11 cases of scar revision and 2 cases of closing velopharyngeal orifice. All surgeries were successful and patients were counseled on aftercare as well as speech therapy for the coming time.

Also, within the framework of this program, International Rotary Club, through the introduction of Professor Shin Hyo Keun – Chief of Chonbuk National University, awarded 2 dental chairs worth 520 million VND to Odonto – Maxillo – Facial Department of Hospital of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy. In addition, this organization also gave funding support to some poor patients and to those who are living in the remote areas.

This is the 14th year of the surgery program between the two universities, and the program will be continued in the coming years. Since 2006, every year, two universities have collaborated to organize charitable surgeries for children with cleft lip and cleft palate in the Central Coast region, Central Highlands and other provinces in the country.

On average, each year, about 30 surgeries are performed. The program takes place at the Hospital of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, organized by the doctors of the Hospital of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy in collaboration with doctors from Chonbuk National University (Korea) to perform the surgery.
