Taking pictures with modern equipment
With the program "Developing digital heritage content of ASEAN’s UNESCO world heritages", the Korean delegation will be taking pictures, performing 3D scans, shooting 4K films and flying flycams to capture the architecture of the relics in the Imperial Citadel, Emperor Gia Long's tomb, Emperor Minh Mang's tomb, Emperor Tu Duc's tomb and Emperor Khai Dinh's tomb.
The data will then be used to create a virtual reality (VR) movie. The film will be introduced in a shared space, the VR Experience Center in Busan, Korea in 2020.
Dr. Park Jin Ho, senior research expert, project management advisor of the Korean Heritage Digital Archives Center, shared: We chose Hue Ancient Capital as the representative of Vietnam's heritage in the ASEAN region because the Royal Citadel was the Capital of the Nguyen Dynasty. This heritage zone shows many characteristics of Vietnamese culture.
Through high-end digital techniques, we want to make videos that show the beauty of Hue Ancient Capital and the outstanding features recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage. Thereby, we hope to help many people who do not have the opportunity to visit Hue directly to still be able to witness and admire the beauty of this heritage site.
After collaborating with Hue Monuments Conservation Center to carry out data collection, the Korea Heritage Digital Archives Center will provide copies of all raw data and content of the virtual reality film to support Thua Thien Hue in researching, preserving and promoting Hue relics. The Korea Heritage Digital Archives Center assures non-commercial use of the data and commits to promoting the image of Hue and of Vietnam to the world.
