Attending the ceremony were also the participation of Deputy Minister Trinh Dinh Dung and leaders of ministers, departments, localities. On the side of Thua Thien Hue province, there were the Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Le Truong Luu, and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngoc Tho.

The project of North-South expressway is an important work that the nation has given priority investment in the period of 2017 to 2020.  The parliament approved the investment project and allocated capital for 11 component projects, in which the route of Cam Lo – La Son going through Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces is nearly 100km long, with the total investment of 7.669 billion VND. The project is expected to be completed in 2021.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc emphasized the strategic meaning of the North-South expressway, which has already been completed nearly 1.000km up to now. It is expected to the end of 2021, an additional 900km of the expressway will be built; and in the period of 2021 to 2025, 2000km; so that in 2025 there will be at least 4000 km expressway being built from Lang Son to Ca Mau nationwide.

“The national expressway plays an important role in connecting provinces, cities, and key economic zones. It also contributes to developing the country, as well as improving citizens’ lives. Especially, when the expressway comes into operation, the expenditure, especially labor costs will be reduced, creating the condition for competition in the context of intensive international integration,” emphasized the Prime Minister.

According to the Prime Minister, as for Cam Lo – La Son route, this is an important push for Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces, creating favorable conditions to shorten the travel distance between the two provinces. The Prime Minister praised the Ministry of Transport, the relevant ministries, departments, and the effort of Ho Chi Minh Road Management Board for strongly pushing the work through to have this ground-breaking ceremony, as well as Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces for actively mobilizing the relocation of people to leave the land for constructing the project. The Prime Minister noted that local authorities have to take care of people and create conditions for them to have places to live and work in peace and contentment.

Although the ground-breaking ceremony was very important, it was just a beginning. The Prime Minister requested the Ministry of Transport, Ho Chi Minh Road Management Board, and contractors to fully aware of the responsibilities of the project and ensure the work’s schedule and quality.
