UPU or International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People is a competition to compose literary works in the form of a letter held annually by the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in collaboration with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for young people worldwide.

In order to develop writing ability and the richness in creative thinking, create conditions for tightening the friendship between countries and peoples in the young generation, and at the same time, help them understand more about the role of the postal industry in life and social development, this year, UPU International Letter-Writing Competition aims to send one’s own meaningful messages about people and the world to everyone.

Director of the Department of Education & Training, Mr. Nguyen Tan shared with 500 students present at the ceremony: “There are many messages that depend on your wishes, such as what you do today is the cause of tomorrow's results; look at the future with your own effort and responsibility to the community; be an integral part of the world around you with positive thoughts and inspire people to connect with that world, etc."

Also, at the launching ceremony, the organizers announced and awarded the UPU 48th International Letter-Writing Contest entitled "Write a letter about your hero".

In this competition, Thua Thien Hue has 7 students winning national prizes. In terms of groups, Quoc Hoc High School for the Gifted is the winning unit. This is the first time Thua Thien Hue has been evaluated and awarded to a school unit by the National Judges.
