Leader at Phu Bai International Airport said that from March 30, this airport would contemporarily stop operating flights from Thua Thien Hue to Ho Chi Minh City and Ha Noi, which have been exploited for a long time. The suspension will last until further notice because the COVID-19 pandemic is developing very complicated.

Phu Bai International Airport is mainly exploiting domestic flight routes from Thua Thien Hue to Ho Chi Minh City, and from Thua Thien Hue to Ha Noi. Previously, on average, the airport exploited over 30 departures and arrivals per day with over 5.000 passenger arrivals.

However, since the effect of COVID-19 pandemic, the exploitation capacity has been reduced from over 50 flights down to 25-30 flights; especially in recent days, just only 8 to 10 flights have been operated per day with around 1-1.1 million passenger arrivals, a decrease of 80% to 90% compared to the past.

According to Mr. Phung Tuan Duong, Vice Director of Phu Bai International Airport, over the days, the unit has strengthened the prevention of COVID-19. The airport coordinated with the Provincial Center for Disease Control to set up 2 body temperature gauges at the departure and arrival terminals to check, control and isolate the COVID-19 symptomatic passengers.

The unit directs the relevant departments to coordinate with the local medical team to be on duty 24/24 to promptly handle the unexpected situations; the airport’s staff have to wear face masks strictly and provide free face masks to passengers to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
