Although it is not either a delicacy or a product that brings much economic value, the season of herrings is always an interesting time for the fishermen with good hauls of fishes as the present given by the sea to the hard-working fishermen.

Herrings can be cooked into many dishes such as braised, grilled herrings, or making herring salad, etc. If it is too much to eat or sell in time, herrings can be dried or made fish sauce. These are the ways that the fishermen often use to preserve this kind of fishes and increase income for the fishing season.

To get a better understanding of the process of fishing and preserving the herrings of the fishermen, Thua Thien Hue Weekly would like to introduce a series of photos titled “The season of herrings” taken by Nguyen Khoa Huy, a photographer.
