The festival brings together nearly 500 artists and dancers from 17 art troupes, representing 9 countries, including the Philippines, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, Laos, the United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam, the host country.
According to the Organizing Committee, the International Dance Festival 2024 is held every three years, with the participation of professional dance performance units representing various regions and countries around the world, as well as professional music and dance art units of Vietnam.
The dance performances participating in the festival are in various genres, including short dance, dance poetry, dance suite, short dance drama, and dance drama, etc., in folk, classical, and contemporary styles. The dance performances must possess high artistic quality, expressing content, ideology, and artistic imagery through elements such as: structure of the performances, structure of dance language, music handling, character development, techniques for handling space, time, props, and acting techniques for actors; using costumes and makeup that are appropriate to the purpose, content, artistic image of the performances, the cultural traditions of each region, ethnicity, and nation, and in harmony with Vietnamese culture.
The Organizing Committee encourages new performances imbued with the cultural identity of ethnic groups and countries. These performances should reflect the colorful life of society and people in a truthful, deep, and vivid manner. Additionally, they demonstrate the innovation and creativity in terms of the form of expression, and the combination with other art forms to enrich the form of expression of the dance performances.
The Organizing Committee will award Gold and Silver Medals to the dance performances that demonstrate high artistic quality, based on the evaluation of the Art Council. The Organizing Committee will also present Award Certificates and other material benefits (if any) to the winning units.
The International Dance Festival 2024 is an event aimed at promoting the cooperation in the field of culture and arts between Vietnam and countries, territories around the world. The festival brings together typical dance performance units from both domestic and international countries, providing an opportunity to showcase the unique values of Vietnamese Dance art. This is also a chance to promote the socio-economic potential and strength, as well as the scenic spots, the historical and cultural relics of Thua Thien Hue Province to domestic and international friends.
