According to the Plant Protection Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), on August 8, 2023, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) under the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has just sent a letter to this agency to inform about the opening of the United States (US) market for Vietnamese fresh coconuts.

Fauna and flora experts have discovered a new plant species that is considered endangered (VU, D2) according to the IUCN Red List criteria and needs to be protected.
