Introducing PTVN, Ms. Claire Yunker said that PTVN is a US non-governmental organization, established and operating in Vietnam since 1995, and is one of the first foreign non-governmental organizations to come to Vietnam to support overcoming the aftermath of war. Currently, PTVN operates in the field of supporting mine clearance and education to raise awareness about bombs and mines, and community development; the area of operation is in the two provinces of Quang Binh and Quang Tri.

With nearly 30 years of operation in Vietnam, PTVN is very pleased to receive effective cooperation and recognition from the local authorities and people where the organization implements these humanitarian supports. With the desire to continue supporting the localities still affected by the war in the Central region, with the approval in principle of the donors, PTVN wishes to establish a cooperative relationship with Thua Thien Hue province through the conclusion of a cooperation framework agreement.

This agreement was signed in the following areas of activities: Clearing mines and unexploded explosives in Thua Thien Hue province to ensure safety for people living, farming and implementing socio-economic development programs; educating people about awareness of, and preventing mine accidents, especially children; supporting victims of mine accidents, including direct support and scholarship support for victims and their children; supporting post-clearance development; bringing delegations and sponsors to visit project activities, and at the same time visiting, learning about culture, and interacting with people in the province to strengthen cooperative relations and continue to mobilize sponsors.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman Phan Quy Phuong said that in recent years, the Thua Thien Hue provincial government has actively mobilized social resources, especially the support of international donors in many forms and through many different sources to carry out programs and projects on mine and explosive clearance; however, the area of land contaminated with mines and bombs in the province is still quite large.

In order to contribute to supporting the locality in minimizing the risks and impacts of bombs, mines and explosives left over from the war; improving the lives of communities and people affected by the aftermath of bombs and mines through specific programs and projects, Vice Chairman Phan Quy Phuong requested PTVN to pay attention to early implementation of support programs and projects in accordance with its commitment to the locality.
