The female professor wins the Kovalevskaia Award

 The leading researcher of many studies with positive impacts on life

On February 26, 2024, a piece of good news for University of Agriculture and Forestry in particular and Hue University in general broke that Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa, Head of the Department of Agronomy, University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University was honored to receive the decision on the 2023 Kovalevskaia Award. Kovalevskaia is an international award for outstanding female scientists in the field of research and application of science and technology, especially natural science - a field that plays a key role in the knowledge economy.

The award is a testament to the professor’s tireless contributions over more than 28 years of dedication to science. Over the past 28 years, the female professor has published 148 scientific articles in prestigious domestic and international journals. Among them, there are 19 articles in ISI/Scopus magazines. With 92 articles as main author, including 12 ISI/Scopus articles, Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa has affirmed her position in the domestic and international scientific community.

The female professor has been the leading researcher of many highly applicable projects and topics. She has 6 science and technology transfer contracts; 2 patents for useful solutions on the process of producing organic fertilizer from livestock waste after biogas composting and the process of producing biological foliar fertilizer from aquatic plants.

The main research direction that Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa pursues includes sustainable integrated soil and crop nutrition management. In particular, the focal research areas involve research soil fertility and building processes for producing and using fertilizers for crops in the Central Region of Vietnam, This is a research direction that can be applied in Central Region, and indeed, has been put into practice. At the same time, she also focuses on applying non-chemical measures to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers, solve agricultural product safety issues and the effects of climate change in crop production.

Recalling the journey of 28 years of diligent scientific research, Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa shared that her most interesting topic was researching the production of organic fertilizer from livestock waste after biogas composting and agricultural by-products. This topic has been effectively applied to life, especially solving the problem of environmental pollution due to agricultural waste, creating a source of quality organic fertilizer to serve the needs of organic farming industry.

That's why, Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa has been awarded 9 national and provincial awards for her research projects. She also received many emulation titles and rewards such as ministry-level emulation soldier, Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister, Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training, Certificate of Merit from the People’s Committee of Thua Thien Hue province.

Scientific research requires passion and perseverance

Not only outstanding in scientific research, Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa has dedicatedly guided and inspired many students, trainees, and graduate students. She also conducted the transfer of science and technology and commercialization of products to other female lecturers, and many of her students became future scientists. She always wants to provide the best scientific research opportunities for young lecturers in the faculty and university, constantly tries to apply scientific and technological products into practice, helping to produce better yield and protect the ecological environment.

Throughout her career, the female professor also diligently participated in training many female farmers in central localities, especially ethnic minorities related to the field of expertise that she was in charge, thereby contributing to sustainable socio-economic development in such localities.

According to Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa, to do scientific research, one first need to have passion, enthusiasm, and perseverance to pursue their goals. In addition, one needs support from their family members, friends, colleagues, related agencies, organizations and units, as well as the State policies. Studying and doing scientific research is a long process. Young lecturers and students should always bear in mind that "Where there’s a will, there’s a way!”, which means that if you’re persevere in conquering your dreams and ambitions, one day you will succeed. Besides, for scientific research to be successful, there must be the cooperation of scientists and colleagues.

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Tran Thanh Duc, Rector of University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University evaluated that Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa was an  exemplary example of enthusiasm and passion for scientific research for generations of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Agronomy in particular as well as University of Agriculture and Forestry, Hue University in general. She always strives to contribute to the cause of education and scientific research, and to the development of the Faculty of Agronomy and the university.

Assoc. Prof., Dr. Le Anh Phuong, Director of Hue University, assessed that Hue University has had many female scientists win prestigious international awards in recent times, one of them is Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Thai Hoa. This is a testament to the quality of training and scientific research of Hue University, which brings the joy not only to the female professor, but also to Hue University in the process of affirming its position to turn Hue University into a National University.

The Kovalevskaia Award, named after the Russian mathematician Sophia Kovalevskaia, began to be awarded in Vietnam in 1985. This is an annual award given to female scientific groups and individuals with outstanding achievements in researching and applying science to real life, bringing many benefits in socio-economic fields.

That is the topic of the 2024 LSCAC International Scientific Conference - “Language, Society, and Culture in the Asian Context”, which takes place from November 22 to 24 in Hue. This event is held by Hue College in collaboration with Malang National University (Indonesia), Hyderabad University (India), University of Mahasarakham (Thailand), the Institute of Cultural Anthropology (Hanoi), and the Northeast Institute for Cultural and Arts Research (Thailand).
