More than ten years ago, when laying the first bricks to build a sewing factory in Phong Dien Industrial Park, Scavi Hue Company had focused on building green spaces, clean factory and associating responsibilities with the community. General Director of Scavi Hue, Mr. Tran Van My affirmed that they always performed three pioneers including linkage, responsibility, and sustainable development.
From the pristine white sand area, nowadays, Scavi has greened it over 15,000 square meters. Each year, the company spends over VND 1 billion to take care of the trees so as to create green spaces both inside and outside the factory. Domestic and production wastewater is collected into a treatment system with a capacity of 650 cubic meters per day and night; hazardous wastes generated in production and printing activities are collected, managed and transferred to functional units for treatment, thereby reducing the use of natural resources, prioritizing the use of renewable fibers, reducing waste, and thoroughly minimize the use of plastic.
According to Mr. My, customers are currently concerning about environmental protection and considering it to be the No. 1 criterion to sign product consumption contracts. They also pay attention to social security, working environment of workers and factory campus. Therefore, Scavi applies the 5S program to stages of the production process to contribute to the management, screening of wastes, and invests tens of billions VND to build cultural institutions, etc.
The first "paper" beer bottle in the world was produced, contributing to the environmental protection
Beer bottles made of "paper"
Over 26 years operation in Vietnam, in October 2019, the Carlsberg Group officially launched the world's first "paper" beer bottle. This packaging is capable of self-decomposition as well as fully recyclable.
It is made of 100 percent of natural wood fibers, fully recyclable and has an inner barrier to contain beer; in which, a design using thin recycled PET polymer film barrier, the other using 100 percent bio-based PEF polymer film barrier, an experiment that Carlsberg sets out to evaluate the quality of the barrier technology, expressing the firm's wishes in creating a 100 percent bio-based packaging without any polymers.
Ms. Myriam Shingleton, Director of Product Research and Development of Carlsberg Group, said that the two Green Fiber test designs were a really important step on the journey to realize the ambition to create a revolution in the market and a breakthrough in sustainable development.
In 2018, the group made a series of packaging improvements including recycled plastic ring wrapping, eco-friendly ink and typically Snap Pack packaging, using a special glue to stick six cans of Carlsberg beer instead of traditional plastic ring wrapping.

Going to work by electric motorcycles
Encouraging employees to use electric motorcycles to replace ordinary motorcycles is the way that Hue Vinpearl Hotel (Vingroup) carries out to join hands to protect the environment. The international 5-star hotel, which came into being at the end of 2018, operates activities such as launching the "Green Sunday" campaign, and "Go green" campaign so as to convert all products that affect the environment including plastic straws, plastic bottles into paper straws, glass bottles, as well as "saying no" to plastic bags and disposable plastic products.
General manager of Hue Vinpearl Hotel, Mr. Truong Quoc Viet said that, in Hue, with over 300 employees, through the survey, 100 percent of the employees registered to use electric motorcycles produced by the group. Currently, there are more than 100 electric motorcycles used by the employees; so, the hotel has planned the parking area that enables employees to charge their motorcycles during the working time at the hotel.
According to Mr. Viet, customers are changing. They have started to focus on and pay more attention to green and environmentally friendly hotels. This is the time and opportunity for the hotel to embark on protecting, and minimizing all negative impacts on the surrounding environment.
Some other simple solutions are equally effective, such as using energy-saving light bulbs, installing sensors and meters to avoid wasting energy, or training employees to increase their awareness to save energy; reducing costs and minimizing negative impacts of the business on the environment.
Double benefits
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Mr. Phan Thien Dinh said that green and sustainable development was a solution bringing double benefits for the businesses, as they could both save production materials and implement environmental responsibility. With the orientation to build Hue into a cultural heritage city with environmentally friendly landscapes, the province has always desired to look for projects with less impact on the environment, as well as commending the "green" factories, and business models that create "clean" products.
Mr. Dinh said that for many years, the province had rejected many large industrial projects, such as those of thermal power, steel, etc. The trend of deep integration into the world economy brings in many opportunities, but also poses many challenges for businesses. Therefore, investing in technological innovation, using resources and energy efficiently to create competitive advantages and contribute to environmental protection are indispensable development paths and create success for the businesses.
Currently, in the local area, there are many businesses investing in technologies to reduce carbon emissions, reduce the use of fossil energy, increase the use of renewable energy (such as solar energy and wind energy); at the same time, increase the quality, reduce the number of products with the goal of joining hands to protect the environment.
