Creating the most favorable environment to encourage people to write and read books

TTH.VN - This was what the Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed at the opening ceremony of the 2nd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2023 on the afternoon of April 21 at Quoc Tu Giam.

The event was held by the Central Propaganda Department, The Ministry of Information and Communication, The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Publishers Association, the Provincial Party Committee, and the Provincial People’s Committee.

Addressing the opening ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang cited the words of President Ho Chi Minh talking about the role of books: “No matter what you do, you need to read books. The professionals need to read to upgrade their qualifications. Leaders need to read to get better management and leadership. Journalists and writers need to read even more”.

The 2nd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day and the Book Festival this year take place in Hue City. According to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, this is a harmonious combination between traditional cultural features and modern factors. That is also a way for us to honor books and affirm the central role of reading culture in cultural life, so that “the flow of reading culture” can continuously open and proceed.

Pushing up reading culture, bringing books into the community

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Information and Communications, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to collaborate and concentrate on pushing up the development of reading culture, bringing books into the community; at the same time, the ministries, sectors, and localities have to be proactive in integrating reading culture into all movements such as constructing culture and encouraging studying, etc.

Furthermore, the Deputy Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and overseas Vietnamese Organizations to make effort, create cohesion and be the linkage so that itinerary of Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day can reach Vietnamese people living far away from their hometown but being close to the soul and culture of Vietnam, their fatherland.

On the side of the province, the Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Phuong shared that the province has promoted and spread the development of reading culture, including constructing, forming, and developing the reading habit, demand, and movement in all classes of people, especially in the classes of young people, children, students, and paying attention to people living in the rural area.

Accordingly, the Provincial People’s Committee has implemented the project of establishing and developing Hue Bookcase to create a book-brand name embodying the mark of Hue, contributing to the promotion of Hue culture through books.

Up to now, Hue Bookcase has formed 9 publications, with the goal to 2030 reaching 50 new publications and take cooperation to stick the logo of Hue Bookcase onto hundreds of books nationwide, turning it into the typical cultural product of Hue to introduce to readers; and, at the same time forming the set of gifts carrying the cultural meaning of the Ancient Capital.
