Van The conical hats to represent Hue conical hats at Traditional Craft Festival
TTH.VN - On the afternoon of April 26th, Ms. Ngo Thi Ai Huong - Vice Chairman of Huong Thuy District People's Committee, announced that the Nón lá (conical hats) of Van The (from Van The village, Thuy Thanh commune) would represent Hue's conical hats at the 9th Hue Traditional Craft Festival in 2023.

The Van The conical hat making first appeared around 1553. After a period of decline due to various reasons, it has been thriven since 2000. Through Hue Festivals and Hue Traditional Craft Festivals, the craft of making conical hats in Hue in general and in Van The in particular became more well-known among tourists, leading to a significant increase in consumption.
Thanks to its contributions, by the end of 2022, the Van The conical hats craft was recognized as a traditional craft of Hue by the provincial People's Committee.
Currently, there are over 70 households making conical hats in Van The, among which is the exemplary Nguyen Thi Kiem conical hat production facility, having been selected as a model rural industrial product at the provincial level in 2015, 2017, and 2021... It is also the main facility for Van The conical hats to participate in this year's Hue Traditional Craft Festival.
To produce the aforementioned quantity of hats, the hat makers at Ms. Kiem's facility have to work tirelessly for 3 months.
“Besides the common conical hats, some of our hats are embroidered and painted with images of Thanh Toan tiled-roof bridge, famous landscapes and scenic spots of the Ancient Capital, with the hope of spreading the image of a beautiful Hue to domestic and international tourists,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Kiem shared.
