The Vich sea turtle was discovered by Mr. Van Danh in Quang Thanh commune, Quang Dien district at the drain to the Tam Giang lagoon.

According to the Fisheries Sub-Department, this is an Vich sea turtle (scientific name Lepidochelys olivacen), a species of sea turtles. The Vich sea turtle was found in normal health, 35 kg in weight, 90 cm in length, 55 cm in width, with a chip attached to the left fin.

This sea turtle is listed as a species which is easily vulnerable and trade prohibited as its number is declining due to the polluted habitat and over-hunting. In Vietnam, Vich sea turtle is a rare animal in the Critically Endangered category (EN C1) in the Red Book.
