Hue mobilizes 500 soldiers to help local people overcome the consequences of rainstorms

TTH.VN - Chairing the online briefing on flood response and recovery taking place on the morning of October 19, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Phan Ngoc Tho requested the departments and localities to focus on implementing the response plans; promptly providing aid and support for local people, not letting anyone suffer from hunger and cold; and ensuring the maximum safety of people and property in the process of recovery and relief.

The flooding has left 27 people died (including 12 died due to the floods, 2 workers of Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant, and 13 people in the working group at the Station of Forest Protection Management in area 67), as well as 15 people still missing at Rao Trang 3 hydropower plant; and 13 people were injured. The flooding made dozens of houses collapsed and damaged, and nearly 85.000 houses were flooded. A great number of areas of crops and aquaculture were lost.

The Prime Minister has granted Thua Thien Hue 1.000 tons of rice for initial hunger relief. The Fatherland Front Committee received over 25 billion VND from sponsors and brought tens of thousands of gifts to people in the flooded areas. The localities are focusing on overcoming the consequences, at the same time carrying out the relief for those suffering the hard hit by the storms and flooding.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Nam Cuong, Chief of the Provincial Military Command said that the army is allocating 500 soldiers to localities to help local people overcome the consequences of flooding, as well as carry out the environment sanitation (in which there were 300 soldiers of Division 968 and 200 soldiers of the Provincial Military Command).

Flexibly applying the “4-in-place” motto

Addressing the meeting, Chairman Phan Ngoc Tho emphasized that the flooding will continue to be complicated in the coming days, leading to the high risk of landslides and flash floods in Thua Thien Hue. The Chairman asked the departments and sectors to keep on monitoring and updating the latest weather development, carrying out series of solutions and tasks to limit the losses and protect the people’s lives and property.

In particular, immediately carrying out the inspection of residential areas, offices, as well as the units’ garrisons, being resolute in relocating people, vehicles, and property out of the dangerous areas. The Chairman also requested the districts to pay attention to the “4-in-place” motto and apply it flexibly in flood recovery. Checking and implementing the optimal plans on in-place forces, the sources of medicine, rescue equipment, and food for people in the landslide, divided and high-risk areas.

At the same time, providing food, drink, and essential commodities for people, especially for the households losing their houses, and those living in the deep inundation areas and being segregated in several days; not letting the people suffer from hunger, being lack of drinking water or shelter. Promptly implementing the work of overcoming the consequences after the flooding, in which focusing on supporting local people in repairing, cleaning their houses, doing the sanitation, doing the sterilization, preventing the disease outbreaks after the floods.
