Cancer Prevention Symposium

TTH.VN - This is the annual scientific conference in 2017 organized by Hue Central Hospital in collaboration with Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and Vietnamese Cancer Society on September 1.

The symposium was attended by Prof. Dr. Le Quang Cuong, Vietnam Vice Minister of Health; Representatives of the Asia-Japan Childcare Federation, Singapore National University Hospital and more than 600 delegates who are leading experts, health workers... from domestic and foreign hospitals, international cancer specialists from US, Singapore, Australia and Japan...

With the theme: "Digestive tract - Lung - Breast & Gynecology, Radiotherapy, Palliative care and Pediatric cancer", this year's symposium almost completely reflects cancer prevention picture of today; particularly, the cancers in children and issues related to palliative care for cancer patients are getting more and more attention. The symposium received more than 100 national and international scientific papers, creating a forum for meetings and exchanges of experiences, as well as updating the latest developments in cancer prevention.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, director of Hue Central Hospital, cancer is a burden for the community. In Vietnam, the number of new cancer cases increased from 68,000 in 2000 to 126,000 in 2010 and is estimated to exceed 190,000 by 2020. More than 70,000 people die each year from cancer, corresponding to 205 deaths per day. The fight against cancer is a big challenge for the health sector.

On the eve of the symposium, on August 31, Hue Central Hospital jointly organized a training program on multi-disciplinary cancer treatment, focusing on common types of cancer and various challenges in treatment to improve professional skills, contributing to the best treatment for cancer patients.
