Patient quickly recovered after a speedy heart transplant at Hue Central Hospital

TTH.VN - On August 22, the doctors of Hue Central Hospital informed that patient LHH (36 years old, Quang Ngai Province), who has just had a heart transplant from a brain-dead person on August 15, 2019, recovered quickly after a period of monitoring.

Patient LHH was conscious and stable

Currently, the patient’s health was improved; the patient was able to move lightly in the hospital bed

Earlier, the patient received a heart transplant from a brain-dead person in Military Central Hospital 108. The heart from a brain-dead donor was removed from the donor's chest at 13:45, August 15 and transported to Hue Central Hospital at 16:15 on the same day by Vietnam Airlines.

At the Cardiovascular Center, Hue Central Hospital, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep, Director of Hue Central Hospital, the heart transplant team of the hospital removed the patient's heart and transplanted the donor's heart into LHH's thoracic cavity. The heart was beating again at 17:00 after more than 4 hours not having blood supply.

On the first night after the surgery, hemodynamic parameters were completely stable, function of the transplanted heart was good with 62% ejection fraction, function of the organs, biochemical and hematological test values were in normal range. The patient was fully conscious, breathing well, weaning of mechanical ventilation and having tracheal intubation removed at 10 am on August 16.

Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep - Director of Hue Central Hospital said that this was the 5th case of heart transplant that was successfully performed in the hospital. Heart transplantation had become a routine surgery at Hue Central Hospital; the biggest problem nowadays was the donation of heart from people with brain death. Prof. Dr. Pham Nhu Hiep also thanked leaders and colleagues of Military Central Hospital 108 for the assistance and coordination in the implementation of this fifth "trans-Viet" heart transplant.
