The flourishes

Recently, Thua Thien Hue tourism sector has coordinated with two neighboring province and city, which are Quang Nam and Da Nang, to organize a tourism introduction program at the World Trade Center (WTC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (on October 23). Many tourism promotion and advertising activities were introduced to international partners and visitors by the management agencies and 22 tourism units and businesses of the three provinces and city.

Notably, the introduced information about the new destinations and tourism products, as well as tourism services of businesses to partners in Malaysia; or displayed movies and images of culture, tourism, and OCOP products of Quang Nam - Da Nang - Thua Thien Hue were highly evaluated by foreign partners working in tourism sector.

Mr. Truong Thanh Minh, Director of the Provincial Tourism Promotion Information Center, said that in Malaysia, the tourism sector of the three localities had organized a Business To Business (B2B) space for tourism businesses to access, exchange, introduce information, offer and sell tourism products and services, as well as signing agreements on cooperation and market development with partners; and a memorandum of understanding on communication cooperation and tourism promotion between the Tourism Promotion Centers of the three provinces and city and the Malaysia - Vietnam Friendship Association had also been signed.

Another special thing was that the three localities also attended the ITB ASIA International Tourism Fair held at Marina Bay Sands, Singapore from October 25 - 27, 2023. From the practical activities, the three localities hope that visitors from Malaysia, Singapore and the ASEAN region, as well as other transition markets, will bounce back and be among key international visitor markets to Hue in particular, and provinces and cities in the Central region of Vietnam in general.

After a long period of being heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, 2023 is the time when Vietnam's tourism sector is expected to recover strongly, especially in attracting international visitors. Normally, the peak season for international visitors usually lasts from September to March. Therefore, the tourism sector also deploys promotion and advertising work to maximize the advantages to attract international visitors and increase tourism revenue.

Data published by the Provincial Statistics Office shows that despite entering the rainy season, in October 2023, the number of international visitors to Hue was estimated to reach nearly 77,200 arrivals, reaching more than 113 percent compared to the previous month, and more than 259 percent compared to the same period last year. In the first 10 months of the year, Thua Thien Hue welcomed nearly 824,500 international visitor arrivals, reaching more than 604 percent over the same period last year, marking an impressive number. Thua Thien Hue has maintained and developed traditional international visitor markets; of which, the top 10 most recent visitor markets to Hue are Taiwan, Malaysia, Spain, Australia, US, Thailand, UK, Germany, France, and South Korea.

Focusing on key visitor markets

In fact, opportunities to improve the competitiveness and enhance the ability to attract visitors are present. Especially, on August 15, the Law amending and supplementing several articles of the Law on Entry and Exit of Vietnamese Citizens and the Law on Entry, Exit, Transit, and Residence of Foreigners in Vietnam officially became effective; with the adjustment of visa regulations in a more open manner, opening up a clear path for Vietnam to welcome international visitors.

In addition, the Resolution No 82/NQ-CP dated May 18, 2023 of the Government on the tasks and solutions to accelerate the recovery and boost the effective and sustainable development of the tourism sector, is evaluated a motivating policy by experts, creating a strong lever for Vietnamese tourism to make great strides and attract international visitors.

For Thua Thien Hue, along with the mentioned policy advantages, the operation of Terminal T2 of Phu Bai International Airport has created many prospects. A lot of international routes have been launched, and tourism businesses have also made concerted efforts to organize charter flights to carry passengers to and from numerous countries.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of the Provincial Department of Tourism, shared that with the orientation of promoting Thua Thien Hue as a typical Festival city of Vietnam, a culinary capital, and the capital of Ao Dai, the department is coordinating with a number of partners to 3D digitize some culinary dishes of Hue, and create some videos or record the culinary performances and instructions by the artisans. In addition, the tourism sector is also coordinating with a number of partners to deploy communication on digital platforms, connecting with domestic and international promotion channels to spread images and information of Thua Thien Hue’s destinations to the international market in a broader, deeper, and more effective way.
