75 delegates and presenters, who are leading experts in cardiovascular diseases from both domestic and international institutions, including the German-Vietnamese Cardiology Association; France, the United States, Singapore, Malaysia, and Cuba, attended the conference. Particularly, for the first time, the conference welcomed delegates from the Asia-Pacific Cardiovascular Disease Alliance (APAC CVD Alliance).
At the conference, experts analyzed that cardiovascular diseases are one of the leading causes of death globally as well as in Vietnam. According to the World Health Organization, in 2019, cardiovascular diseases accounted for up to 39.5% of deaths; among which, cerebrovascular diseases (55.4%), coronary artery disease (32%), hypertension-related heart diseases (6.9%), and other heart diseases (5.7%).
In Vietnam, the trend of mortality due to cardiovascular diseases is increasing, with cerebrovascular diseases accounting for the highest proportion, with the mortality rate increasing from 127.3/100,000 people in 2000 to 164.9/100,000 people currently. The burden of disease continues to rise, especially in cardiovascular diseases and the tendency of younger patients in the working age group.

Experts share research findings at the conference |
Under the theme "Comprehensive Approach to Cardiovascular Diseases and Co-morbidities," the conference had a total of 103 presentations, including six overview sessions, one scientific research session, one session on reports from young cardiovascular scientists, and two continuous medical education sessions.
These studies represent new research findings with high practical applicability in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, contributing to enhancing treatment effectiveness, reducing costs, and alleviating the economic burden on patients.
At the conference, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Quy Phuong emphasized that Thua Thien Hue province focuses on building specialized medical centers, based on close coordination and leveraging the strengths of three main pillars: Hue Central Hospital, Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University, and the local healthcare system. Specifically, it focuses on building Hue Central Hospital into a high-level medical center, a nuclear hospital, a center for training high-quality healthcare professionals that is internationally regconized; building Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy into a national-level "University - Institute" model and striving to achieve international standards; and continuing to improve the local healthcare system to ensure the protection, care, and improvement of people health in the new era.

The Expanded Ancient Capital Cardiovascular Conference is part of the Ancient Capital Conference series conducted over the past 3 years, initiated by the Provincial Union of Science and Technology Associations and the Provincial People's Committee and supported by medical associations in the province. The goal of the Ancient Capital Cardiovascular Conference is to leverage internal strength, unite efforts to prevent and control cardiovascular diseases and co-morbidities.
