The conference scene
Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Le Quang Cuong, former Deputy Minister of Health; Dr. Nguyen Minh Loi, Deputy Director, Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health. On the provincial level, Mr. Nguyen Dung, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, related agencies and 400 delegates, leaders in medical training, medical lecturers and students in the country and the world over attended the conference.
"Clinical teaching is a pillar of medical education reform and this conference provides a great opportunity for health educators in Vietnam to share their knowledge and experiences," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Quoc Huy, Vice Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Loi, Deputy Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training - Ministry of Health, said that it is necessary to improve the quality of the medical workforce.
According to Dr. Nguyen Minh Loi, the system of training the health workforce in Vietnam has seen a strong development. The health workforce is increasingly improving, both in quantity and quality, to meet the basic health care needs of people at all levels.
However, the network of training institutions and the number of training institutions are mainly increasing rapidly in major cities. Training programs are still heavy in theory, and yet to be focused on building the necessary capacity for learners to meet the needs and requirements of the medical system.

The Ministry of Health is committed to implementing a comprehensive reform of health workforce education in the orientation of approaching training methods of advanced countries in the world. In the immediate future, it is necessary to focus on reforming a number of key training programs in the form of capacity building to create human resources for the health sector in response to the disease model and the economic situation of Vietnam; and to focus on modifying the specialized postgraduate training program, linking the results of specialized training to the civil servant ranks of medical staffs.
At this conference, leading international experts in the field of medicine, such as Dr. Darrell G.Kirch - President and CEO at the Association of American Medical Colleges, Prof. Ducksun Ahn – Vice-President of the World Federation for Medical Education, Dr. Susan Day - Senior President of Medical Affairs for the US Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, and representatives from medical schools nationwide exchanged experiences, sharing information on health education.
Health workforce education reform is a long-term process. Participants at the conference will discuss to determine the schedule and contents of clinical teaching and specialized training in health workforce education reform.
