Orbis Flying Eye Hospital conducted ophthalmic training in Hue

TTH.VN - On the morning of August 21, at Phu Bai Airport (Huong Thuy), the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness - Orbis, held the opening ceremony of the Flying Eye Hospital Program 2019 in Thua Thien Hue.

Attending the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dung; Prof. Dr. Luong Ngoc Khue, General Director of Administration of Medical Service, Ministry of Health; together with representatives of relevant provincial agencies and organizations.

The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital program is sponsored by Orbis global partners, including Alcon Boeing and Omega. This is a continuous medical education designed according to the demands for improving capacity for local doctors, nurses, anesthetists, biomedical engineers ...

The program is conducted through theoretical lectures, case studies, surgical practice on simulated devices, clinical observation, hands-on surgical training, as well as participation in scientific workshops and seminars. In-flight lectures and surgeries are livestreamed to students in other countries around the world through Orbis's online remote training system named cybersight.org.

This is the second time the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital returned to Thua Thien Hue to carry out a 3-week training program from August 19 to September 6 with the aim of improving professional capacity in the treatment of eye diseases that might cause blindness, such as cataract, glaucoma, strabismus, plastic surgery and retinopathy for doctors and staff of Hue Eye Hospital and Hue Central Hospital.

The Orbis Flying Eye Hospital also cooperated with Hue Eye Hospital to perform physical examination for more than 230 cases of eye diseases coming from provinces and cities nationwide. Thereby, they perform screening for operation, offer free treatment for more than 120 cases of glaucoma diseases, perform ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery, give internal and surgical treatment for patients with retinopathy and for children with strabismus, congenital glaucoma.

Built in 1982, the Orbis Flying Eye Hospital was the only ophthalmic teaching aids in the world implemented on MD-10 aircraft and was recognized in the US medical training system. Up to now, the Orbis Flying  Eye Hospital has come to Vietnam 7 times, implementing 10 programs in Da Nang (2006, 2008, 2010), Ho Chi Minh City (2010), Hue (2015, 2019), Hanoi (2015), Can Tho (2017) and Binh Dinh (2017).

On this occasion, Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company and Orbis signed a commitment to implement eye care and blindness prevention projects for many provinces and cities of Vietnam over a period of 3 years with a value of 1 million USD. According to Norman Liu, a Board member of Orbis Singapore, "Vietjet's companion will double the result that Orbis has brought to Vietnam over the years".
