Towards sustainable production

In Thua Thien Hue, Hue Garment and Textile Joint Stock Company (HUEGATEX) is one of the leading businesses in sustainable production. With the strategic vision of becoming a key partner of major global fashion brands, HUEGATEX recognizes that green production is an inevitable trend to enhance competitiveness in the global textile supply chain. Nguyen Van Phong, General Director of HUEGATEX, said that for the past four years, the company has set goals to reduce emissions, wastewater, and waste by 1% per product unit. Currently, HUEGATEX is striving to reduce electricity consumption by 3%.

HUEGATEX has partnered with green energy suppliers to install a solar power system at its Factory No. 4 in the Phu Da Industrial Zone. The company is also building a new factory to LEED standards (green design and construction standards), using solar power and electric boilers. These innovations not only reduce production costs but also enhance brand value, solidifying HUEGATEX’s role in the global sustainable textile supply chain.

Not only in the textile industry, but many businesses in Thua Thien Hue are also promoting sustainable green production in various fields. SBC Hoang Gia Company is a prime example, successfully restoring and developing the Bo Chinh ginseng variety, which was once a tribute to the emperor. The company has developed ginseng cultivation in the highlands of Thua Thien Hue, at nearly 1,000 meters above sea level. Thanks to the suitable soil and natural farming methods of the local people, Bo Chinh ginseng has high nutritional value and is used in products such as fresh ginseng, dried ginseng, ginseng powder, and ginseng flower tea. Currently, the company’s products are available nationwide and have participated in many international trade fairs, including in China, India, and Thailand.

SBC Hoang Gia is committed to pursuing a green economy and circular economy production model. The company's manufacturing plant meets HACCP and ISO 22000:2018 standards, ensuring quality and food safety. The company’s "Royal Honey-soaked Ginseng" product has earned a 3-star OCOP certification, affirming its quality and reputation in the market.

Another success story comes from entrepreneur Le Thi Kim Hang, founder of YesHue Production and Trading Co., Ltd. Kim Hang realized her dream of bringing Hue's specialty spices to the world, successfully exporting the first batch to the United States in 2019. With products like Hue beef noodle seasoning, Hue chili sauce, and fried shallot oil, YesHue has established its brand in the international market.

YesHue focuses not only on developing traditional products but also on applying advanced technologies to ensure a green and sustainable production process. The company has built a modern factory using cutting-edge processing and packaging technologies for export. Kim Hang shared that to compete in the market, YesHue emphasizes building a strong workforce, developing its brand name, and expanding its distribution channels through e-commerce platforms and specialty stores nationwide.

Challenges and opportunities

Today, businesses across Vietnam, including Thua Thien Hue, face numerous challenges but also many opportunities. Companies like HUEGATEX, SBC Hoang Gia, and YesHue have demonstrated their ability to adapt and innovate to take hold of the trend of sustainable development. This not only enhances their competitiveness but also contributes to environmental protection and local economic development.

Moreover, businesses in the province need support from the government and organizations to access capital, digital transformation technologies, and domestic and international markets. Practical support policies will help small and medium-sized businesses in the region integrate more deeply into the global supply chain, creating favorable conditions for their sustainable development in the future.

In the context of globalization and the increasing demand for sustainable development, businesses in Thua Thien Hue are affirming their position through green production strategies and sustainable business models. With continuous innovation and long-term strategic vision, Thua Thien Hue’s businesses will continue to be shining examples in the new era, making positive contributions to the local and national economic and social development.

Thua Thien Hue is on the path to becoming a centrally-governed city. To achieve this goal, the collective effort of the entire society is needed, with an important role played by businesses and entrepreneurs. When the business community is strong, it becomes a driving force for socio-economic development, generating material wealth and significantly contributing to the budget, job creation, and social welfare.
