Building and developing the brand of Hue Thanh Tra is an urgent need, affirming the position and trademark of this product inside and outside the country, promoting the development of community tourism and culinary culture, as well as creating sustainable livelihoods for local people. With the permission of the Provincial People's Committee to use the geographical name "Hue" to register a geographical indication (GI) for Thanh Tra grapefruit, on March 24th, 2023, the Department of Science and Technology submitted an application to register the “Hue” GI. ".

After more than 8 months of monitoring the application, on January 18th, 2024, the National Office of Intellectual Property issued Decision No. 11 on granting the Geographical Indication Registration Certificate No. 00135 for Hue Thanh Tra grapefruits. The Decision clearly states the specific nature of the product, geographical conditions, production methods, etc. This GI is protected indefinitely throughout the territory of Vietnam from the date of signing this Decision. The establishment of the “Hue” GI for Thanh Tra grapefruits is an opportunity for the province to preserve and promote the value of the local endemic fruit and the value of products for tourism.

At the ceremony of announcing The Protective Certificate of “Hue” Geographical Indication, the Institute of Agrochemical Soils advised developing draft regulations and processes to serve the management and use of protected GIs, including the following regulations: managing, recording accept use, controlling the quality of Thanh Tra grapefruits of the province bearing the "Hue" GI, as well as planting, caring for, harvesting and preserving such products.

The “Hue” GI identification system for Thanh Tra grapefruits has also been specifically designed.
