Chi Lang Street (Hue City) is home to a few households that still practice the craft of lantern-making. These lanterns, made of plastic and fabric, are skilfully adorned with images of the Buddha, lotus flowers, and various decorative patterns, creating a sparkling and captivating sight of the passers-by. Depending on the type of lantern, such as stars, lotus flowers, or traditional cakes; and the materials used, prices range from a few tens of thousands to 100,000 Vietnamese Dong per lantern.

“Demand is low these recent years, so our production has also decreased. Depending on the orders from pagodas and some Buddhist families, we only make enough lanterns to deliver them on time,”shared a lantern maker on the occasion of Vesak on Chi Lang Street.

Opposite Tu Dam Pagoda, Su Lieu Quan Street is where various types of lanterns and decorative flags to celebrate Vesak are sold. It has been observed that in recent days, the shops here have been bustling with customers who come to choose and buy lanterns.

Meanwhile, in many ancient pagodas, the preparations for the grand celebration of Vesak are also being carried out urgently as the festival approaches.
