Emperor Triệu tổ Tĩnh was the father of Lord Nguyễn Hoàng - the first of the Nguyễn Lords who ruled the southern provinces of Đàng Trong (the Inner Realm). Emperor Triệu tổ Tĩnh lived at the end of the Later Le dynasty and was bestowed the title An Thành Hầu.

Lord Nguyễn Phúc Khoát was the 8th Nguyễn Lord who ruled the Inner Realm from 1738 to 1765. His reign contributed to the most significant period of territorial expansion in Vietnamese history towards the south. Lord Nguyễn Phúc Khoát is also considered the ancestor of the five-paneled Ao Dai.
