Thousands of visitors and locals chose to wear ao dai in their visit to the heritages on March 8 this year

In response to the "Ao Dai Week", launched by the Vietnam Women's Union, implementing the project of "Hue - the Capital of Ao Dai", and celebrating the 111st anniversary of International Women's Day (March 8), the Complex of Hue Monuments applied free ticket policy for citizens who wear ao dai from March 6 to 8. More than 11,000 visitors worn the traditional ao dai and visited the heritages in the period of three days under the policy, in which, on March 8 alone, more than 4,000 visitors worn ao dai during their visit to the heritages.

In the five-panel ao dai (ao dai ngu than), Ms. Vo Thi Thuy Duong, a visitor from Quang Tri, said: “The five-panel ao dai is now a “hot trend” among young people, so, when I arrived in Hue, I immediately hired this dress and went to the Citadel to pose for photos. Wearing this ao dai and posing for photos in the heritage space is very suitable, which is both to preserve and promote the nation's traditions. I feel at ease and very comfortable wearing ao dai”.

Ms. Nguyen Y Thao, a female visitor from Hanoi said that she travelled to Hue on the occasion of the March 8, and was allowed to visit the heritages for free. This is a very good policy of Hue. After the very first photos of the ao dai captured in the heritages posted on social networks, many friends and relatives of her paid a compliment on her beautiful photos, which were very impressed. Many of them shared that they would soon go to Hue to have a similar ao dai photo album.

The Ao dai in Hue life

Throughout the S-shaped strip of the land of Vietnam, Ao dai can be found in every region. Specifically, in Hue, Ao dai has become a part of the cultural identity and unique beauty of the people here. An important milestone in Hue Ao dai costume was in 1744, after Lord Nguyen Phuc Khoat ascended the throne in Phu Xuan, he promulgated many policies and mentioned the modification of costumes. Thereafter, during the Nguyen Dynasty, the court issued an order, creating an opportunity for Hue women in particular and Vietnamese women in general to wear Ao dai regularly. Accordingly, the tradition of wearing Ao dai gradually entered the daily life of people.
