On the morning of November 17, the Organizing Committee of the Thua Thien Hue Science and Technology Innovation Awards 2018 held the closing and awarding ceremony of the 9th Thua Thien Hue Science and Technology Innovation Awards in 2018.

The Awards was organized jointly by Thua Thien Hue Union of Science and Technology Associations, Hue University, the Provincial Labor Confederation, the Provincial Youth Union, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and related units.
The ceremony was attended by Mr. Le Truong Luu, Member of Central Party Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; and Mr. Phan Tung Mau, Vice President of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA).
Thua Thien Hue Science and Technology Innovation Awards is organized every two years in even years. In 2018, the works participating in the Awards increased in both quantity and quality. Many of them have high scientific content. Many works are novel, innovative and highly applicable to life.
There were 63 works participating in seven fields, including information technology, electronics and telecommunications; mechanical and automation; medicine; material technology; biology serving production and life; technology aiming to protect the environment and rational use of resources; energy-saving and new energy-using technologies; and social sciences and humanities.
The Organizing Committee decided to award to 56 works, including five first prizes, 15 second prizes, 19 third prizes, and 17 consolation prizes. At the same time, 28 works were selected to participate in the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Awards (eight works more than the general rules).
Particularly, in this year's competition, besides six fields participating in the national competition, Thua Thien Hue has a new field of social sciences and humanities, which is the strength of the locality.
In addition, this was also the first time a foreigner participating in the Thua Thien Hue Science and Technology Innovation Awards and winning the prize. That was Ms. Andrea Teufel (co-author with Mr. Nguyen Dang Khanh) who participated in the Awards with the work of "Researching, developing, training and applying new approaches to preserve and restore heritage buildings with decoration applying original construction techniques, especially the "fresco" technique (which has so far been extinct) and colored plaster”. This work won the third prize in the field of material technology.
